The Heat Level Card
Our own kitchen guidance — relative flavor, not a measured Scoville rating. Print it, stick it on the fridge, drizzle accordingly.
| Heat level | What it tastes like | Drizzle it on |
|---|---|---|
| 1 of 4 flames:Mild | A light warmth on the finish. | Honey butter, roasted carrots, cornbread, vinaigrettes, grilled cheese. |
| 2 of 4 flames:Medium | Noticeable but friendly heat. | Pizza, salmon, chicken bowls, feta dip, sweet potatoes. |
| 3 of 4 flames:Hot | A clear chili kick that lingers. | Wings, crispy chicken, cauliflower, wing sauce. |
| 4 of 4 flames:Extra Kick | Hotter chilies or a longer steep. Use sparingly. | Dry rubs, and tiny drizzles for the chili lover at the table. |
The one storage rule
Homemade hot honey is made with fully dried chilies only — never fresh peppers or fresh garlic. Keep it in a clean, dry, labeled jar, refrigerate it, and make small batches for prompt use. It is not a validated shelf-stable or canning product. And honey of any kind is never for children under 12 months.
